Drop a Brick on Zebra Mussels Project
We had another great summer of success with the Drop a Brick on Zebra Mussels
program. This fall, we received 37 reports from participants for the summer
during 2006. All volunteers reported no zebra mussels on their bricks!
As always, it will be important to check your brick periodically throughout this
upcoming summer and call the LGA immediately if you find anything. Even if you
do not find zebra mussels on your brick at the end of the season, we still need
to hear from you! Knowing where zebra mussels are not located is still important
information.
Also, knowing where we have people monitoring helps us fill in important gaps in
areas of the lake where we do not have volunteers monitoring yet.
This upcoming summer, we will be adding bricks to the Village of Lake George
public docks and working to increase the number of bricks placed at private
marinas and resorts around the lake.
There are bricks available at the office and the LGA is always looking for more
volunteers to help monitor. The map on this page shows brick locations reported
back to us in 2006. Areas such as Pilot Knob, Sabbath Day Point, and Sandy Bay,
where we received no reports this year, are priorities for increasing coverage
in 2007, as well as sites with high calcium levels. (See inset.)
Please consider volunteering to drop a brick and monitor for zebra mussels on
Lake George next season.
