HYDE COLLECTION CURATOR TO SPEAK AT LGA

Lake George, NY – The LGA’s “Lake George Inspirations Summer Talk Series” will wrap up with its final presentation on Thursday, September 3rd.

Erin Coe, the Deputy Director and Chief Curator for The Hyde Collection, will present “Lake George in Painting and Print (1774-1900).”

The presentation, which will begin at 7:00 p.m., is free and open to the public. It will be held at the LGA office, which is located on Route 9N in the Town of Lake George, just off Exit 21 of I-87 between the Mobil Station and the ADK building.

Based on research conducted as part of the exhibition Painting Lake George, 1774-1900 that was on view at The Hyde Collection, Erin Coe will share the evolution of the Lake George aesthetic in paint, prints and tourist literature. The contributions of Hudson River School artists such as Thomas Cole, Asher B. Durand, Sanford R. Gifford and John F. Kensett will be highlighted along with those of lesser-known landscapists.

Coe will focus on the motivations and cultural conditions behind various interpretations of Lake George from its role in American colonial military history, to the dramatic scenes of unspoiled wilderness, to views of the lake as a settled and comfortable resort.
