Summer Job Opportunity

Lake George Watershed Steward (4 positions)

Spend your summer outdoors on beautiful Lake George. Help protect the lake by interacting with lake users and educating them about invasive species and other water quality issues. This position is available through the Lake George Watershed Conference.

Part-time and full-time positions available. 

Full time positions: 40 hours/week - 5 days/week including weekends with 2 days off mid-week. Part-time positions: 24 hours/week - 3 days/week - Fri, Sat, and Sun. Hours may fluctuate based on time of year, scheduled boating events, and weather.
· Must be able to start by May 19th
· End date flexible based on school schedules
· Pay rate is $9/hour

Position Summary: Stewards will provide public outreach and education about the threats of ecologically harmful aquatic invasive species to the waters of Lake George and other waterways. They will help stop the introduction and transport of invasive species by boats and trailers by conducting visual inspections and interviewing boaters. Other related duties as assigned.

Main Duties: Educate the public on invasive species, Distribute written information to watercraft users, Inspect watercraft for invasive species, Operate portable boat wash for watercraft determined to be "at risk", Conduct a verbal survey and inspection inventory, Enter collected data in database and write summary report

Steward Position Locations:
Mossy Point Boat Launch in Ticonderoga, Norowal Marina in Bolton Landing, and various other launch locations around the lake.

Required Skills and Background:
· Strong verbal communication skills
· Sound understanding of customer relations
· Well organized and ability to coordinate multiple tasks
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Demonstrated interest in environmental work through education, volunteer work and/or hobbies.
· The successful candidate must possess a valid NYS driver's license.
