Sedimentation basin site selection done in 2000; design, permitting and construction is scheduled for  2001.

Numerous additional projects need funding for implementation

Indian Brook (Bolton Landing)

Conceptual design completed in January 2000 includes proposed runoff improvements at two county road crossings, and cleaning and enlargement of two existing, small stilling basins to trap sediment. Final design and construction awaiting funding.

Prospect Mountain Brook (Lake George Village)
Study completed in Fall 1998 to identify problems, sources and potential solutions for this watershed that includes part of Lake George Village.  Proposed improvements include a small detention basin west of I-87, and features to collect and treat runoff from Village streets before discharge to the Lake through the culvert near Sheriff’s Dock. Also see Sheriff's Dock Delta Reduction below.

Stewart Brook/Myers Pond (Bolton Landing)
LGA multi-phase stream corridor study underway in Fall 2000; conceptual design was completed in Spring 2001. Funding is needed for implementation.

Sunset Bay Brook (aka Fairy Brook, Hulett’s Landing)
Study completed in Fall 2000 to identify a series of local improvements along the County Road that runs along the brook. Conceptual design complete;  awaiting implementation of roadside work by county highway department. Negotiations are underway to identify best location for proposed small sediment basin.

West Brook (Lake George Village)
Phase II to develop plan to intercept and infiltrate stormwater from Canada Street on the north side of West Brook. Final design complete and funding is in place; construction on hold pending resolution of issues related to Fort George Wetland project.

Roadside Stormwater Management:
(Dark Red Square on Map)

Cleverdale Road (Queensbury)}
After becoming stalled over the use of New York State Land for stormwater management, work resumed in Fall 2000 on a conceptual plan to correct problems at parts of Cleverdale that are suffering from uncontrolled stormwater runoff from paved roadways.

Pilot Knob Road (Fort Ann)
Work was completed in 1995 on stormwater management strategies at 16 locations on the Pilot Knob Road. Work included the construction of check dams, earthen structures, catchments, grading steep slopes, mulching and seeding.

Pioneer Village (Bolton)
Conceptual design completed in fall 1999 for stormwater management improvements at road and beach; beach work done in May 2001; road construction pending.

Shelving Rock Road (Fort Ann)
A project is proposed that will address stream and road bank erosion on Shelving Rock Road-the site of considerable storm damage in January 1996.

Trout Lake Road (Bolton)
Work was completed in fall 1996 on a series of infiltrators, drywells and sediment catch basins along Trout Lake Road to remove much of the stormwater runoff from the road channel and infiltrate it into the ground.

Valley Woods Road (Bolton)
Completed in the summer of 1998, this project provided materials for the installation of several catch basin/drywell to catch and infiltrate storm runoff before it drains to Finkle Brook.

Westover Association (Lake George)
Conceptual design completed in Fall 1999 for stormwater management improvements to road and repair of failing stream bank near beach; construction pending.

Pond Reclamation:
(Yellow triangle on Map)
Click here for general project description.

Gage Brook Reservoir
Maintenance dredging of this small impoundment on West Brook off Prospect Mountain Highway in the Town of Lake George was completed in June 1996. The reservoir now functions as a sediment retention basin for the West Brook watershed. Maintenance dredging was completed again in the summer of 2001.

Hubbell Brook Reservoir
This man-made, former water supply reservoir is now serving as a sediment retention basin on Hubbell Brook, (a major tributary to English Brook), the location of the largest Lake George sediment delta. The basin was cleaned out in 1993 and maintenance dredging to restore the sediment retention capacity began in September 2001. (see photo below)

Middle Road Reservoir
The maintenance dredging of a small pond on Stebbins Brook where it crosses Middle Road was completed in October 1996. This small pond serves as a retention basin to catch sediments now being transported  down the Brook and into Lake George. The next maintenance dredging is scheduled for 2001.

Ore Bed Reservoir
In July 1996, maintenance dredging was done on this reservoir that once served as part of the water supply for the Village of Lake George. The basin is now used as a means to prevent excessive amounts of sediment from entering Lake George and contributing to the expansion of the West Brook delta.

Sheriff’s Dock Delta Reduction

Investigation into solutions to the problems at the Sheriff’s Dock culvert, located at the intersection of Canada Street and Beach Road. Historical problems at the site include elevated nutrient levels, high coliform bacteria counts and a sizable delta forming at the mouth of the culvert. Maintenance dredging and underwater surveys were completed in the spring of 1998; final report completed in July 2000

Beach Erosion Control: (Green triangle on Map)

Lake Avenue Beach (Lake George Village)
In 1996, four catch basins were installed on both sides of Lake Avenue Beach Road to help trap sediments from stormwater runoff from approximately ½ mile of paved roadway and adjoining properties. LGA and the Village of Lake George are planning the next phase of this project to include vegetative stormwater buffers and a cartop boat launch for the waterfront.

Gull Bay Beach (Putnam)
Phase 1 of this project, completed during Winter 1996, is designed to infiltrate and intercept ground and surface water to prevent further beach washout and erosion into Lake George. Phase 2, scheduled for 2001 will address runoff from roadway and parking lot east of beach/launch area. Click here to view the April 1997 newsletter.

Huddle Bay Beach (Bolton)
The purpose of this project was to capture and infiltrate most of the stormwater running off Huddle Beach Road before it reached the beach and caused erosion into Lake George. Construction of the stone-lined roadside ditch was completed in Spring 1999. In Spring 2000, the runoff collection trench and drywell were installed where the road meets the beach, and the road was paved. Click here to view the newsletter from April 2000. (Include  PHOTO FROM DEC.2000 newsletter)

Rogers Memorial Park (Bolton)
The purpose of this project, completed in 1996, is to improve stormwater management and water quality at the beach and to prevent beach erosion into Lake George. A new drop inlet was installed in the beach parking lot that collects runoff and directs it to a new drywell and a series of infiltrators under the beach. The drywell and infiltrators trap sediment and allow water to infiltrate into the sandy soil before reaching Lake George.

Wetland Enhancement: (Map)

Fort George (Battlefield) Park Project
Funding is in place, however the project is stalled pending a decision by New York State on the use of Forest Preserve Lands for the Wetland Recreation Project. A plan to construct a wetland in Fort George Park to store and remove pollutants from stormwater runoff that now flows directly into Lake George via West Brook is complete. The plan includes walkways through the wetland with the use of displays to educate the public about the importance of wetlands to Lake George water quality. Click here for more information on wetlands.
