LGA TALKS LOOK AT WATER QUALITY, PHOTOGRAPHY

Lake George, NY – The Lake George Association (LGA) will host 2 talks this week focusing on the lake and surrounding environs. Both events will be held at the LGA office in Lake George. They are free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

On Wednesday, June 3rd at 7 pm, Scott Kishbaugh from the NYS DEC Office of Water in Albany will discuss Lake George Water Quality. Local photographer Mark Bowie will present In Stoddard’s Footsteps on Thursday June 4th at 7 pm.

Kishbaugh will review 5 years of water quality sampling data that LGA volunteers have collected as part of the statewide lake volunteer monitoring program that is coordinated by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Federation of Lake Associations. He will discuss the results so far, and how Lake George compares to other lakes in our area and across the state. This is a great chance to learn from an expert in the field and to ask questions related to Lake George and water quality.

Mark Bowie is a third generation Adirondack photographer.  He is a frequent contributor to Adirondack Life and Adirondack Explorer magazines.

Mark will present a complementary program to his newest book, In Stoddard’s Footsteps: The Adirondacks Then & Now, in which he compares the Adirondacks of today with the one of Seneca Ray Stoddard’s era. The comparisons are fascinating, sometimes surprising and, in every case, illuminating.

In a career spanning the settling of the Adirondack wilderness, the heyday of the guide, the steamship, and the grand hotel, pioneer photographer Seneca Ray Stoddard produced over 8,000 images of the evolving landscape — the largest documentary record of late nineteenth century life in the region.

More than a century later, renowned Adirondack photographer Mark Bowie literally followed in Stoddard’s footsteps, faithfully re-photographing the exact locations of many of his classic images.

The LGA office is located on Route 9N in the Town of Lake George, just off Exit 21 of I-87 between the Mobil Station and the ADK building.

For more information, contact the LGA at (518) 668-3558 or check out the LGA on the web at www.lakegeorgeassociation.org.

The LGA is a not-for-profit membership organization of people interested in working together to protect, conserve, and improve the beauty and quality of the Lake George Basin.
