BUILD YOUR OWN RAIN BARREL AT LGA
Lake George, NY – The Lake George Association (LGA) will offer a “Build Your Own Rain Barrel” workshop on Wednesday, July 1st starting at 5:30 p.m. The workshop will take place at the LGA office in Lake George.
The LGA will supply the barrels and other pieces. The cost for the workshop is $55 for LGA members and $65 for non-members. Advance registration is required as the workshop is limited to 10 spots.
“A rain barrel is a simple rainwater collection system,” said Emily DeBolt, the LGA’s Education and Outreach Coordinator. “It is a large barrel that stores rooftop runoff that can be used for later activities, such as watering your lawn and garden.”
According to DeBolt, the workshop is being offered as part of the LGA’s Lake Friendly Living program, which reaches out to individuals, groups and businesses to offer simple ways to lessen human impacts on the lake’s water quality.
“Rain barrels have many environmental benefits,” said DeBolt. “By conserving water and using the stored rainwater, homeowners and businesses will use significantly less municipal and well water over time.”
Rain barrels also reduce water pollution by decreasing stormwater runoff from driveways and roads, which can contain pollutants like sediment, unwanted nutrients, oil, grease and bacteria.
The LGA office is
located on Route 9N in the Town of Lake George, just off Exit 21 of I-87
between the Mobil Station and the ADK building.
For more information or to make a reservation, contact the LGA at (518) 668-3558.
A second workshop will be offered on Wednesday, August 5th at 5:30 p.m. at the Hague Community Center.
