SUMMER LAKE TALKS FOCUS ON THE ARTS

Lake George, NY – The Lake George Association (LGA) will host a series of talks throughout the summer focusing on the arts and their connection to Lake George.

The LGA’s “Lake George Inspirations Summer Talk Series” will be held the first Thursday of each month. The presentations begin at 7:00 p.m. and are free and open to the public. They will be held at the LGA office, which is located on Route 9N in the Town of Lake George, just off Exit 21 of I-87 between the Mobil Station and the ADK building.

“Lake George – Inspiring the Writer’s Life with Nancy Scarzello” will be the next in the series and will take place on July 2nd.

Nancy Wotton Scarzello is an author, artist and naturalist with a lifelong love for Lake George. She is a regular contributor to the Hague Chronicle and published a book on nature around Lake George entitled “Nature Through The Seasons.”

In this presentation, Scarzello will share her own experiences in allowing the lake and its surrounding lands to guide her in a fulfilling way of life.

On Thursday, August 6th, the presentation will be “Lake George Watercolors with Loren Blackburn.”

“Lake George in Painting and Print (1774-1900) with Erin Coe” will be the final talk in the series and will take place on Thursday, September 3rd.

Loren Blackburn was born in Glens Falls, where his interest in painting started early in life. He has always had a strong attachment to the beauty of the countryside in which he was raised. Blackburn’s captivating watercolors are a nostalgic expression of rural life, architecture and landscapes of New England and Northern New York State. He will share some of his Lake George paintings and tell the stories behind them.

Based on research conducted as part of the exhibition Painting Lake George, 1774-1900 that was on view at The Hyde Collection, Erin Coe will share the evolution of the Lake George aesthetic in paint, prints and tourist literature.

Coe will focus on the motivations and cultural conditions behind various interpretations of Lake George from its role in American colonial military history, to the dramatic scenes of unspoiled wilderness, to views of the lake as a settled and comfortable resort.
