Metadata:  Metadata is data about the data that you have (i.e.) who created the data, when and how it was acquired, its scale, etc.)This data is important to know because you do not want to use outdated data that has incorrect information. GPS Related Links: GPS stands for Global Positioning System. A GPS unit is a device that can locate your position to an accuracy of several meters and can be further corrected to an accuracy of several centimeters.  A unit is able to obtain its position from a constellation of satellites based on time and the location of the satellites. The Lake George Association has a Magellan ProMarkXCM. We have used our GPS unit to collect various types of data, but it is used most often to collect point data associated with past, present and future projects. NYS-DEC is one of the regulatory agencies in the Lake George Basin.
