Lake George High School Students First-Ever LGA Stream Monitors!

Lake George High School students participating in LGA Stream Monitoring Event Eleventh and twelfth grade students from Lake George High School participated in the first stream-monitoring event on May 7th. Led by LGA Educator Karin Badey and accompanied by Lake George Biology and Environmental Science instructor Nicole Porter and LGA Communications Coordinator Sharon Borgos, students hiked to the headwaters of West Brook to gather their first stream samples and learn the "art" of stream monitoring.

"I thought that this was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it and would like to do it again."
   -Emily Madden (Eleventh Grade)

"I enjoyed performing the oxygen and pH level tests."
-Andrea Marasola (Eleventh Grade)

"I never knew how many organisms there were in the stream. I thought it would be too cold and the water would be moving too fast. It was fun and interesting with good instruction and leaders."
-Andrea Mitchell (Twelfth Grade)Lake George Students hike up a hill towards the stream

"I had a lot of fun "rock rubbing". All the different varieties of organisms we found were very interesting to examine. I would definitely like to come back and learn more. It was good exercise too, to walk to the stream."
- Kyla Garcia (Eleventh Grade)

"This was a great experience for my students and I .They have had an opportunity to do some real hands-on, authentic learning. I hope this is something they will remember forever."
- Nicole Porter (Lake George High School Teacher)
