Foster Brook Delta Removal
LOCATION: Huletts Landing, town of Dresden, Washington County.
ACTION: In 2009, approximately 1500 cubic yards of material were removed from the delta at Foster Brook. The dredging application took less than two weeks to complete. Working behind a double set of turbidity curtains, Kingsley Construction worked expeditiously to complete the project. The material was hauled to the town of Dresden landfill. The project was permitted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It received full support from the town of Dresden and the local residents.
This achievement represents more than 15 years of planning and the completion of other significant upland stormwater projects in the watershed. A full report with photos can be viewed in the Foster Brook Summary Report.pdf.
RESULTS: Navigation and recreation opportunities have greatly improved. Fisheries at the mouth of the brook have also improved as 2010 saw smelt running for the first time in years.
PROJECT CONTRACTORS: Myers Engineering provided consultation during the design, planning and construction phase of the project. The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum (LCMM) provided archaeological support and Kingsley Construction Inc. completed the project.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT of PROJECT SUPPORT: Helen V. Froehlich Foundation, New York State Department of State with funds provided under Title 11 of the Environmental Protection Fund, the town of Dresden, the Kapusinski Family, and many shoreline residents.
